From July 3 to July 5, a team of 12 teachers led our S.5 students on an enriching three-day study tour to Huizhou and Shenzhen, centered on historical culture and sustainable development.

Upon arriving via the High Speed Rail, the team spent their first day in Huizhou exploring Huizhou West Lake and the Huizhou Dongpo Ancestral Hall. Through these visits, students immersed themselves in Lingnan’s iconic natural scenery and the profound literary legacy of Su Dongpo, experiencing the timeless historical charm of the region.

On the second day, students visited the Shenzhen Daya Bay Nuclear Power Plant to learn about China’s remarkable progress in clean energy, nuclear safety management, and cutting-edge technological applications. In the afternoon, the group visited Dapeng Fortress, where ancient ruins and historical artifacts deepened their understanding of Ming and Qing Dynasty coastal defense systems and traditional Lingnan architecture.

On the final day, the tour proceeded to the Dongjiang Column Memorial Hall in Pingshan District, Shenzhen, where students gained inspiring insights into the revolutionary history and heroic deeds of the Dongjiang Column during the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression. The trip concluded with a visit to the Guanlan Printmaking Village, allowing students to experience the revitalization of ancient Hakka residential architecture and witness a harmonious blend of artistic innovation and heritage preservation.

This study tour provided both teachers and students with a deeper understanding of national technological innovation, clean energy infrastructure, and their crucial roles in safeguarding national security and sustainable development. Beyond fostering an innovative mindset and an interest in technology, the journey offered students valuable perspectives on heritage conservation, encouraging them to reflect on how to integrate the essence of traditional Chinese culture into their daily lives.
