From April 21 to April 26, our school organised the Easter Hangzhou and Shanghai Study Tour, with the participation of 36 students from S.1 to S.5. The tour aimed to broaden students' horizons, deepen their understanding of Chinese history and culture, and explore how China has been affected by economic globalization since the reform and opening-up.
The study tour featured a rich and diverse itinerary, covering Hangzhou, Wuzhen, and Shanghai. Students visited cultural landmarks such as the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal Museum, West Lake, Su Dongpo Memorial Hall, and Wuzhen, gaining firsthand insights into China’s profound historical heritage and the unique charm of Jiangnan’s water towns. At the Su Dongpo Memorial Hall, students learned about the life and achievements of the literary master, inspiring their interest in and appreciation of Chinese literature. They also participated in a tea-picking experience, engaging in traditional Chinese cultural practices and strengthening their connection to their heritage.
In Shanghai, students explored iconic sites such as the Bund, Yuyuan Garden, and Nanjing Road, experiencing the city's unique blend of history and modernity. They also visited the Site of the First National Congress of the Chinese Communist Party, gaining a deeper understanding of key moments in modern Chinese history. Additionally, a fun-filled day at Shanghai Disneyland added a touch of relaxation and joy to the packed itinerary, leaving unforgettable memories for both students and teachers.
This study tour not only broadened students' historical and cultural perspectives but also enhanced their interest in learning the Chinese language and their teamwork skills. Through field visits, students gained a profound understanding of the preservation of traditional Chinese culture and the nation's modernization. This experience will undoubtedly be a cherished memory in their educational journey.
