Study Tour to Chongqing

In April 2019, forty-four teachers and students of our school joined a study tour organized by EDB to Chongqing, spending four days studying the history and culture of Chongqing and Mainland China.
During the tour, teachers and students had the opportunity to visit Chongqing No. 8 Secondary School and had wonderful cultural exchange activities. In addition, they visited a commercial firm and many local historical and cultural attractions, such as Hongya Cave, Chongqing Three Gorges Museum, Chongqing Science and Technology Museum, Ciqiko Ancient Town (Porcelain Village) and Dazu Rock Carving and Dazu Rock Carving Museum.

Through this visit, the students had a better understanding of the recent economic and technological development of China over the last few years and the availability of potential opportunities for Hong Kong. 

S.1 Inter-class Chinese Storytelling Competition

The S.1 Inter-class Chinese Storytelling Competition was held on 12 February 2019. It is a competition organized by the Chinese Department, aiming to help students to acquire public speaking and expression skills. All S.1 students gathered at the school hall, supporting and encouraging their schoolmates. All competitors did their best in their performances. After keen competitions, S1A CHUNG KA CHUN got the Champion.  The First Runner-up was S1D HUI WUN HAY HAYDEN and the Second runner-up was S1D KOON LOK CHING.

Inter-school Basketball Championships

18 of our students from Secondary 1 to 6 participated in the Inter-School Basketball Championships (Girls A and C Grades) between October 2018 and February 2019. The competitions were organized by the Hong Kong Schools Sports Federation with the aim of promoting girls’ interest in basketball and improving their skills in the sport.

Writer's Talk: Ms. Winsome Lee, a forensic anthropologist

Ms. Winsome Lee, a forensic anthropologist, was invited as the guest speaker of the Writer's Talk on 17 January, 2019. With her expertise, she explained to our students how to trace the sex, age, race, origin, etc. of an unknown skeleton through scientific investigation. Our students were so amazed by the science behind this profession.

The school library at the same time put up a display on good books about the topics of forensic science and death. Book shelves were immediately cleared by science enthusiasts. Students undoubtedly gained a deeper understanding of these interesting topics, and had the opportunity to reflect on the meaning of life.

Visit by the Secretary for Justice

On 7th December 2018, our Prefect Team had the honour to receive the Secretary for Justice, Ms Teresa Cheng, SC and other government officials of the Sai Kung District Council. Sharing the experience of the ‘Mock Trial - Justice Education Project’ in the previous two years coupled with a simulated court proceedings, the Prefects grasped the invaluable opportunity to learn from Ms Cheng and the lessons taken ranged from the practical to the profound. Not only were there professional discussions on the rule of law and civic responsibility, but Ms Cheng also shared her personal experience on the joy and tribulations of being a lawyer and the Secretary for Justice, encouraging our Prefects to enhance their communication and critical thinking skills through active participation in extra-curricular activities.
